Admission

Admission — Where the Journey Begins

Admission to UWLA is limited to students who show academic and professional promise. Students come from diverse educational, occupational, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and we admit students without regard to age, sexual orientation, or disability.

The admission policies at our Southern California law school are designed to create opportunity for both traditional law students and non-traditional students such as working adults or those with significant family responsibilities who demonstrate the potential for and commitment to success in their education and career.

Qualifications

Students who complete the applications process and meet at least one of the following qualifications will be considered for admission in Southern California law school :

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally-accredited institution, as well as a score on the LSAT at or above the 20th percentile and not more than five years old
  • An Associates of Arts Degree from an approved California Community College as well as submission of an LSAT score at or above the 31st percentile and not more than five years old
  • The completion of 60 academic semester units with a minimum cumulative g.p.a. of 2.00 at a regionally-approved institution. Such work must be not less than one-half of the collegiate work acceptable for a Bachelor's Degree, as well as submission of an LSAT score at or above the 31st percentile and not more than five years old

Applicants who do not meet these criteria, but who believe they can demonstrate potential may qualify for Special Student Status, or our Performance Program.

The Admission Process

Students who believe that they can meet the above qualifications are invited to apply for admission by completing the following process:

  1. Complete the application and submit with the appropriate fee
  2. Take the LSAT if you haven’t done so in the last five years, and request that your score be submitted to UWLA. Registration and Information booklets for the LSAT may be picked up in the School of Law Office, or obtained from the Law School Admissions Service by calling (215) 968-1001
  3. Request that required documentation, including official transcripts, CLEP, TOEFL scores, and letters of recommendation be sent directly to the School of Law Office: The University of West Los Angeles School of Law, 9920 S. La Cienega Blvd. #404, Inglewood, CA 90301
  4. Attend an interview. You will be invited to interview with a faculty member or Dean
  5. Write and submit an essay if requested to do so

Admission to our Southern California law school is based on consideration of objective information such as a student’s education and test scores as well as subjective information including letters of recommendation and the interview. Once an applicant has completed the admission process, a decision will be made in approximately two weeks and the applicant will be notified in writing. Applicants whose admission is approved shortly before a new semester will be contacted by telephone.

Pre-Law Programs

The School of Law does not prescribe any special undergraduate, pre-law program. A broad education emphasizing oral and written communication, reasoning, and critical thinking is strongly recommended.
