  • Dalia Maayah

Dalia Maayah is a fourth year UWLA law student in her final semester. She has attended UWLA’s School of Law J.D. program as a part-time student as she sought out an education that would allow her to work and attend night classes. After hearing about the J.D. from a UWLA alumnus, UWLA became the only school she applied to.

Dalia had wanted to work in the legal profession since she was in high school. She received an associate degree from Los Angeles Valley College in Administration of Justice and a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology from California State University of Los Angeles. These experiences led Dalia to work as a legal assistant and eventually starting her law studies at UWLA.

Ms.Maayah has found that she has been able to work towards her J.D. while working full-time. Her mantra became, “if others can do it while working full-time, then I have the power and determination to do it as well.". She knew it was not going to be easy, but it was going to be worth it. She has been to see through the challenges of working full-time, being a mother, and a wife while studying law as she approaches the end of her last semester this 2021 fall.

Dalia describes her professors as being knowledgeable, experienced, and extremely humble. She is very grateful for the tremendous help and mentoring she received from UWLA professors and facility. She also feels very blessed for all the support she received from her husband and family during her law school journey.

During her time as a UWLA student, Dalia encountered numerous courses and professors who have made a significant impact on her education. She recounts some professors to be like parental figures, giving advice and guidance throughout her courses and career, and others who seemed to be an encyclopedia of knowledge and held high expectations of their students.

In April, Ms.Maayah won the 2021 Roger Traynor Moot Court Championship, finishing first amongst 10 competing law schools and defeating the team from Loyola Law School in the final round. The Traynor Moot Court is a prestigious statewide annual appellate competition. Dalia indicated that she was obliged and privileged to be a student of Professor David Glassman, who inspired and challenged her throughout the preparation for the competition and the Moot Court course. “It was such an honor to participate in this competition and it was such a celebratory way to finish up law school.”, Ms. Maayah said.

Overall, Ms. Maayah’s experience at UWLA has given her many educational tools and experiences to prepare her career in the legal profession.

Congratulations to Ms. Dalia Maayah for her successes and we wish her well as her UWLA journey comes to an end soon.
