UWLA President's Coronavirus Update Letter

March 24, 2020

Dear UWLA students:

Our first week of distance learning is now successfully behind us. I am pleased to report that although there were some growing pains in the transition, it is my understanding that we have been able to ensure the continuity of your education with our transition to D2L, Zoom, and teleconference phone lines. I appreciate your cooperation, patience, and understanding as we respond quickly to these changing and challenging circumstances. I want to commend our faculty and administrative staff for their combined efforts, working as a team, to ensure that the integrity of our educational processes and learning experience for our students were achieved and maintained.

As Iam sure you are aware by Governor Newsome's EXECUTIVE ORDER N-33-20 aka "Stay at Home Order", designed to manage the risks associated with the spread of COVID-19, leaves all of us in uncertain times. Many in our communities are now subject to layoffs, furloughs, and reduced working hours that result in lost income and an inability to financially cover living expenses.

For those of you on a UWLA Deferred Payment Plan ("OPP") and are currently experiencing financial hurdles due to COVID-19, please reach out to Danielle Reeves at DReeves@uwla.edu to discuss options that UWLA potentially can make available to you on!a case by case basis.

These are difficult times for businesses as well, but our swift response to the pandemic has enabled UWLA to emerge as an operationally stronger institution.

UWLA is a fifty-four year old institution and we continue to care for one another as a large extended family. Together we will work together to overcome this COVID-19 challenge. Please reach out to me if I can be of any assistance to you in these challenging times.

Sincerely,

Robert W. Brown, President
