

UWLA Panel Discussion: UWLA Celebrates Black History

On February 24th 2021, UWLA
Hosted a panel discussion with President Brown celebrating Black History.
Topics included:
- What does Black History mean in Los Angeles?
- Who were the pioneers that laid the foundation for the current
generation?
- How are the actions of those pioneers connected to what needs to
be achieved ttoday?
The panel included:

William Hastie, Esq. - Student, Merchant Mariner, Activist, City Planner,
Civil Rights Lawyer, University Professor, Government Manager, Law Firm Builder,
Healthcare Executive, Consultant and Retiree.

Paul C. Hudson, Esq. - Partner and co-founder of SEED Collaborative,
Former Chairman and CEO of Broadway Federal Bank. He has served as Chairman of the Los Angeles City
Community Redevelopment Agency, President of the Los Angeles NAACP, and on the
board of the California Community Foundation, the Los Angeles County
Metropolitan.

Roland S. Jefferson M.D. – Practicing Psychiatrist and son of
Justice Bernard Jefferson form UWLA President.

Hon. Yvonne Braithwaite Burke, Esq. – Current Member of the
Amtrak Board of Directors. Frist
African-American woman to represent the West Coast in Congress and first
Congresswoman to give birth while in office and the first to be granted
maternity leave by the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
