The David Morovati Foundation
March 13th, 2023
Those of you who attended graduation last June
will remember we honored David Morovati
with the posthumous award of Doctor of Law in 2020.
After pursuing his passion for music as a DJ, David returned
to law school to obtain his Juris Doctorate degree. However, David received his cancer diagnosis at the start of his 2nd year. Despite having to undergo various treatments, he continued
to go to classes,
take exams, support his classmates, and in the end, successfully graduate at the top of his class.
UWLA honored him for his inspirational perseverance and strength. We remember him
today and his ethos to pursue every significant dream
and always continue reaching for the stars. David was indeed an inspiration to us all
to live our lives to the very fullest, to do the unthinkable, and to be our very best, throughout our life.
Today, I’m writing you to share the news that family and friends have created
a Foundation for cancer research in honor of David. The foundation will raise donations for cancer research
and care for those diagnosed
with this ruthless disease. David's wife Bita was also a cancer victim at 8 but was lucky to survive.
She was able to receive treatment
from a hospital called Rambam, which is where David was supposed
to receive treatment.
But unfortunately, the disease took his life too soon, and he could not fight
back nor get treatment at this world-renowned hospital that had saved Bita's life. As a result,
Bita has decided to raise funds and donate to the Rambam hospital in memory of David. The donations
will go to funding a new emergency room
department, and it will be named in honor of David Morovati.
Bita has asked me to inform
the UWLA community
and share the attached
information about the Foundation and its fundraising.
On behalf
of all the faculty,
staff, students, and alumni, UWLA has donated; if you find it possible, I encourage
you to do what you can to help this worthy cause and hospital.
