Letter from the Dean's Office: We Can't Remain Silent...

Dear UWLA Community,We can’t remain silent and indifferent to human suffering occasioned by the war in Israel and Gaza. In light of the heart-wrenching news that thousands of innocent individuals have been killed or injured, our hearts are mourning with sorrow and grief. This immense tragedy, coupled with the devastating attacks over the weekend, deepens the pain we collectively feel.
UWLA stands with the international community in condemning this terrorism. The scenes of the violence perpetrated against innocent citizens, students, women, children, and babies initiated early Saturday morning are reprehensible.Our University echoes the sentiments of the President of the United States, who stands with the people of Israel during these trying times.
UWLA shares in the grief of those innocent civilians, and their families, impacted by the heinous attacks on scores of helpless individuals, mourning the mounting loss of life. The indiscriminate taking of innocent Israeli and international civilian hostages is inconceivable. Attacking innocent civilians of any nationality is egregious and unacceptable.My heart goes out to the people affected, and to our UWLA students, staff, faculty, and alumni hurting for their loved ones. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the killed and injured individuals, and the entire community reeling from this tragedy. Many families in our University community have ties to the region and anxiously await developments. If you or someone else in the community could benefit from support, please don't hesitate to reach out.
The University is ready to engage additional measures to assist our students, staff, and faculty through these crises. As a community rooted in humanism and caring, we understand all too well the individual and collective devastation of such tragedies. UWLA remains a safe, healing space as we hope for peace.
